In January, DC's themed variant cover month asks fans to express themselves with adult coloring books. The covers, 24 that we've been able to track down, were solicited by DC Comics back in October, but as they've started arriving in comp packages for the press, it seems it's worth a mention to remind readers they're out there -- and they're pretty impressive. The actual art is from a number of DC's biggest names, including RED co-creator Cully Hamner, iZombie co-creator Mike Allred and more.

Matt Reeves appears to be slightly changing direction with the sequel to The Batman. The genre for the film has been updated to include *sci-fi* and *fantasy* elements, alongside its original *action/adventure* classification. This shift suggests that the sequel might explore more fantastical aspects of Batman's universe, moving away from the gritty realism that defined the first film. Speculation is rife about what this could mean for the story. Some fans believe it might pave the way for characters like Mr. Freeze or other villains with more surreal abilities. The Batman comics over the years have varied genres depending on the writer, but the tone of the first film from Reeves leaned heavily into the noir detective feel making a unique entry in the film history of the franchise. Details remain scarce, as the film's release has been delayed to 2027, and the script is still in development.

We have an idea of at least one character who will be joining John Cena in season two of Peacemaker. Actress Brey Noelle shared an image on Instagram that said, “DC Studios has officially cast actress Brey Noelle as White Rabbit, one of Batman’s villains, in Peacemaker S2. Welcome to the DCU, Brey!” The White Rabbit is a character named Jaina Hudson, a Gotham City socialite and a villain who often taunts Batman and leads him into traps. Jaina has the unique ability to physically separate herself into two beings: her normal self and the White Rabbit persona. This allows her to be in two places at once. The character first appeared in Batman: The Dark Knight (Volume 2) #1 in 2011 and was created by David Finch and Paul Jenkins.

With the release of Daredevil: Born Again, the original Marvel Netflix series are back in the spotlight and with the return of Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio and Jon Bernthal there is speculation of the other Defenders returning as well. And while people love the idea of Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter returning… there is some questioning whether Finn Jones should return as Danny Rand aka Iron Fist. Jones was asked about it at a convention this past weekend, saying: “I’m very aware of the critiques of the character and my role in it. My response to that is: give me a f*cking chance, man. I’m here and I’m ready, and I wanna prove people wrong.” Jones appeared in two seasons of Iron Fist and one of the Defenders plus an episode of Luke Cage. The first season of Iron Fist was the weakest, but his later appearance did get better and the “Heroes for Hire” episode of Luke Cage was a lot of fun.

While Marvel’s live stream announcement of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday was widely mocked for it being over five hours of chairs… it pulled in 275 million digital views and 3.1 million social mentions… that’s better than any of their livestreamed red carpet premieres and five times the social volume of the Deadpool & Wolverine Super Bowl trailer, which is currently the most viewed trailer of all time. And after revealing 27 names ranging from Avengers regulars like Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, to newcomers having not even debuted yet like Pedro Pascal and Lewis Pullman, to long since gone franchise members like Alan Cummings and James Marsden. All of this was capped off with Robert Downey Jr walking in and taking his seat as the final name. But he had already been announced last summer taking on the new role of the villainous Doctor Doom. Except, this might not be done yet. The original rumors floating out there has a cast of over 50 characters and its easy to name characters that everyone expected to be in the film like Mark Ruffalo, Benedict Cumberbatch, Brie Larsen and Tom Holland. They announced Kelsey Grammer, yet how do you bring him back when the last time we saw him he was with Teyonah Paris? No Eternals, Moon Knight, Daredevil or Guardian of the Galaxy? There is a lot of speculation that a second chair video could be coming our way, maybe one with an equally interesting final name to match RDJ… say perhaps Chris Evans? We shall see. I mean, after the video RDJ posted: "That's what you call a deep bench of talent... actually it's more like a row, but an extra long one... that must be it... right?" To which Marvel Studios replied: "There's always room for more." ...

In a recent visit to the Nightcap podcast, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler addressed when we may be getting the third film in the MCU franchise and those rumors about Denzel Washington heading to Wakanda. When asked about how long until the next installment, Coogler told hosts Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson, “Not long.” As for Washington, the actor let slip during the press tour for Gladiator 2 that Coogler was writing a part for him in Black Panther 3, but then back tracked a bit, but when asked about it on the podcast, Coogler described Washington as a living legend and a great mentor that is all about looking out for us. About the project, Coogler said: “I’m dying to work with Denzel and I’m hoping we can make that happen. I got every intention of working with him in that movie and as long as he’s interested — it’s going to happen.”

While Joe and Anthony Russo may have directed two of the highest grossing films of all time with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the brothers have not had anywhere near that level of success outside of the MCU. Their Netflix backed films The Electric State and the Gray Man haven’t lived up to expectations and now their spy universe of projects over at Amazon MGM, Citadel, faces an uncertain future. This comes after the surprise departure of the studio head Jennifer Salke who was the one who spearheaded the idea of Citadel and who brought in the Russo Bros to make it happen. Season two of the main series, which stars Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra-Jones, is in post-production and the two spin-off series, Citadel: Diana and Citadel: Honey Bunny, still waiting word on their future after both did well in their home markets, Italy and India, neither had really hit on a global level. An additional factor could be the recent acquisition of the James Bond franchise which Amazon MGM plans to expand after the next feature film. It’s unclear if the studio would want to push two global spy franchises at the same time.

Sony is getting ready to lower the drawbridge for its forthcoming movie The Legend of Zelda. The studio’s live-action video game adaptation is set for theatrical release on March 26, 2027. Wes Ball, who helmed last year’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is directing the feature that has not yet announced plot details or a cast. The feature version of The Legend of Zelda adapts the Nintendo gaming franchise of the same name that launched in 1986. The fantasy-inspired game series centers on the young Link and Princess Zelda, who attempt to save the kingdom of Hyrule from the evil Ganon. (via THR)
