Yesterday’s release of Marvel’s Captain America: Steve Rogers #1 sent shockwaves through fandom. Nick Spencer and Jesus Saiz’s story implies that Steve Rogers is secretly a Hydra agent, and may have been recruited into the terrorist organization as a child. Fans were distressed at what this could mean for the iconic and patriotic Avenger’s past, present, and future. Word of Captain America’s dark turn seems to have reached Chris Evans, the actor who plays the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Steve Rogers. Evans responded to the news with a simple tweet reading, “Hydra?!?!? #sayitaintso.” Evans has played through a somewhat similar scenario on screen. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it was revealed that the entire S.H.I.E.L.D. organization had been compromised by Hydra up through its highest ranks, and had in fact been under Hydra’s thumb since its earliest days. In that story, Captain America proved to be a singular, incorruptible force that helped root out and remove Hydra’s influence. In the current Marvel Comics Universe, it seems those roles may be reversed.

James Gunn posted that John Cena and Jennifer Holland have wrapped filming on Peacemaker season 2. In his post on social media, Gunn said, “ And that’s a Peacemaker Season Two wrap on John Cena & Jennifer Holland, who both turned in wonderful performances this season as Christopher Smith and Emilia Harcourt. To top it off, shooting yesterday was one of the most fun days of shooting I have EVER had! Thanks to the incredible people of Savannah, Georgia for making the Peacemaker crew’s stay here so special. ONE DAY LEFT!” Both actors are reprising their roles from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker season one. The sophomore season is expected to debut next year, sometime after the release of Gunn’s Superman film in July. Gunn talked about the previous season and what would be considered canon to the new DCU, stating that the majority of the series is canon but definitely not the scene near the end where the Justice League shows up… that didn’t happen.

We need to address the elephant in the room, or rather the gloves on the desk. The popular theory going around the web is that The Penguin quietly introduced us to the Batman villain the Scarecrow, or at least laid the groundwork for Jonathan Crane to appear. Now, flash back a well before the series aired to when Theo Rossi was cast in the series. Some scoopers were reporting that he was going to be playing Crane, a psychiatrist who discovers a fear toxin that causes people to hallucinate their worst nightmares. The character has appeared in live action before including Batman Begins as played by Cillian Murphy. When the Penguin began on HBO, Rossi appeared as Julian Rush, a psychiatrist at Arkham who uses red-light technology to access his patients’ deepest memories. People were quick to assume he was Crane using a different name. That’s not really the bait-and-switch type of thing director Matt Reeves is known for doing. By the end of the series people were accepting that he was not the Scarecrow. Another theory had him not really existing, but we won’t go into that one. Anyway, theory done… except for when an eagle-eyed fan noticed something interesting on Julian’s desk and was able to get a screenshot. Though not clear, the two items on either side of his desk appear to many people to be the glove and mask of the Scarecrow, firing up the speculation again. When asked about the objects, The Penguin production designer Kalina Ivanova said, “We left it open to interpretation. The Hands are from Bali.” What can we take from all of this? For sure, Julian Rush had a pair of ceremonial gloves from Bali on his desk in his home office. The second object is not a mask according to the production designer. And hiding a character under another name doesn’t feel like what Reeves would do. Could Rush still become or inspire Crane? Certainly. Had they originally planned for him to be Crane and then changed it? Absolutely possible. But it also may just end up meaning nothing at the end of the day. ...

I don’t know if Idris Elba has a goal of appearing in as many franchises as possible, but the actor who plays Heimdall in the MCU can add another hero to his credits list. Deadline is reporting that Elba has been cast in the upcoming Amazon MGM film Masters of the Universe as Duncan, Man-At-Arms. The Travis Knight directed film will also feature Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man/Prince Adam and Camila Mendes as Duncan’s daughter Teela. In the film, Duncan is the weapons master and combat instructor for the royal family and is tasked by King Randor to create an elite strike force, which he then names the Masters of the Universe. Besides being an Asgardian for Marvel, Elba has also appeared as Bloodsport in The Suicide Squad, voiced Knuckles in Sonic 3, played the superpowered Brixton in Fast & the Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, Roland the Gunslinger in The Dark Tower and Krall in Star Trek Beyond. And that’s only a small portion of his resume.

Deadline is confirming that 1883 actress Isabel May is definitely playing the daughter of Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott in Spyglass Media Group’s upcoming Scream 7. The deal is reportedly locked. May has made a big splash for herself as Elsa Dutton in the Yellowstone prequel Paramount+ series, 1883. She also went on to play the character in its continuation series, 1923. The latest Scream continues on with original OG castmember Campbell, but also Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, who both made waves in the last two movies, 2022’s Scream and Scream VI, aren’t starring in the latest iteration as previously reported. Ortega exited due to her busy schedule on Wednesday among other projects. Barrera was fired last year after her social media posts centering around the Israel-Hamas war. Paramount is releasing this seventhquel, just like it did the last two movies. This one comes out on Feb. 27, 2026.
