Though she has taken a step away from acting, Liv Tyler reprised her role as Betty Ross in the most recent Captain America movie and director Julius Onah spoke about how that came to happen. “We knew Liv was willing to come back when I had a Zoom with her. You dream these things, you work these things out, but then you just have to actually go talk to the human being,” he told Collider. “She had taken a bit of a step back from acting, focusing on other things in her life, and she’s such an incredible human being. But I just went and did a Zoom and had a very honest conversation with her, like I did with every other actor who was going to become involved, as to emotionally and thematically what this movie was trying to accomplish and why I thought it would be worth their time and their talents. Luckily, she responded.” Tyler starred opposite of Edward Norton and William Hurt in the 2008 Incredible Hulk film and now she steps in to work with Harrison Ford who took over the role of Thaddeus Ross after Hurt passed away. Also returning with Tyler is Tim Blake Nelson who reprises the role of Samuel Stern aka the Leader.

Keanu Reeves has given an update on a potential Constantine 2. The actor spoke to Inverse about the project, saying: “We’ve [along with director Francis Lawrence] been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘OK.’ So, we’re going to try and write a script.” Fans of the 2005 film need not worry, Reeves added that the sequel would continue in the world they created two decades ago. “We’re not going off that. John Constantine’s going to be tortured even more.” Loosely based on the DC/Vertigo series, Constantine starred Reeves, Rachel Weisz, Peter Stormare, Tilda Swinton, Djimon Hounsou and Shai Lebouf.

Captain America: Brave New World sits atop the box office for a second time with a $28 million haul, but the on-line narrative isn’t great. The film received the lowest Cinemascore of any Marvel Studios film, a ‘B-‘. And it dropped 68% from week one to week two… not the worst drop for the studio but higher than you’d want. The question remains, is this a good movie? The critics and fans are split with the paid folk giving a 49% and the paying folks giving an 80%. This is almost the polar opposite of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which had critics giving it an 82% and fans a 46%. I saw a recent review of the TV series Reacher that said it was derivative, simplistic and awesome. It’s a series that knows the genre it’s in and plays to the expectations. Perhaps that is what we have here with the MCU post Avengers: Endgame. When a movie succeeds well outside of its genre, it resets the expectations of the audience. But not every movie can be Endgame any more than no baseball player could hit a home run on every at bat. Brave New World sounds like a solid single that may be stretched into a double. This is one of those Marvel films that people will really like in retrospect.

At the end of 2024, a gym owner posted a picture with Daredevil star Charlie Cox who had been using the gym on Holiday. Along with the picture was a caption saying, “Training for his role in the upcoming Avengers movie.” That led to a lot of speculation on-line that Daredevil would be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday which had entered production. Cox has since clarified what he was training for. “I was there for Christmas with my family. And on the last day, they asked if they could take a picture with me, which we did. I had said to them, ‘I’m getting ready to play Daredevil,’ ’cause I am! I’m getting ready to play Daredevil in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again.” Cox felt terrible about the confusion and the gym owner edited the post after it had gone viral. Cox also assured his bosses that it was not what he had told the guy, that it was just a misunderstanding. As for if Daredevil will join the Avengers in one of the two upcoming films, Cox added: “I have no knowledge of any other commitments at all. It definitely feels like Matt Murdock is in that [Marvel] world more but it would be cool for that journey to continue.”

Marvel Studios has changed how they produce television series, and that change is just starting to become evident. In the past they handled television the same way they did film, announce a slate of projects and then make them happen. But other studios would start developing series, get them to a point where they either will or won’t work, and make decisions from there. That is Marvel’s new process which means that some project will be developed without being officially announced and could get cancelled or paused at any point. Three projects, that were never announced, but were widely reported as being in development were Nova, Strange Academy and Terror, Inc. Okay, two of those were widely reported while the latter was new to a lot of people. These have now been paused as the studios priorities have shifted. They could be revisited later on and moved back into development. The reason for the pause could be anything from them not liking the progress on the series, to having a certain actor in mind but them not being currently available, to other projects needing to move forward to help the overall narrative and that taking precedence over these projects. While those three are pausing, it was reported that a second season for both Agatha All Along and Hawkeye were now being looked at.

It’s pretty common now for movies, especially superhero movies, to get delayed. It wasn’t that long ago that The Batman 2 got moved back an entire year from 2026 to 2027. So it should come as no surprise that Sony is delaying the next Spider-Man film. What is surprising is that the film is being delayed one week. It’s moving from July 24th, 2026 to July 31st, 2026. Why the move of seven days? That would be because of Christopher Nolan and his new film The Odyssey. The Matt Damon lead film, which also stars Tom Holland, will be debuting on July 17th, which would’ve had it’s second week fighting with Spider-Man for not only box office sales but for IMAX screens. This move gives the Nolan film two full weeks with the theaters and puts Spider-Man up against Paw Patrol 3 instead. I don’t think Paw Patrol needs IMAX theater screens.

This June, behold the fury of Marvel’s greatest supervillains in BRING ON THE BAD GUYS! Announced at ComicsPro, BRING ON THE BAD GUYS is a seven-part event celebrating the nearly 50 year legacy of the groundbreaking BRING ON THE BAD GUYS trade paperback. Pioneering how comics were collected, the original BRING ON THE BAD GUYS collected key early stories of Marvel’s most iconic supervillains. The upcoming new BRING ON THE BAD GUYS delivers a blood pounding experience across seven one-shots starring those same infamous characters: DOCTOR DOOM, GREEN GOBLIN, ABOMINATION, LOKI, RED SKULL, DORMAMMU, and MEPHISTO. The overarching saga will be spearheaded by Emmy Award-winning writer Marc Guggenheim who kick things off in BRING ON THE BAD GUYS: DOCTOR DOOM alongside acclaimed artist Stefano Raffaele and delivers the event’s epic conclusion in BRING ON THE BAD GUYS: MEPHISTO. A lineup of superstar creators craft the additional one-shots, each of which will contain a special backup story by Guggenheim shedding light on Mephisto’s dastardly plot AND revealing the origin of the mysterious SISTER SORROW, a new villain who plays a pivotal role throughout the storyline. THE BALANCE OF POWER IS FOREVER CHANGED! Mephisto seeks enough souls to power an ancient artifact called the SOUL FORGE – destined to give him dominion over ALL human souls! Doom must stop him at all costs, but who is the mysterious Sister Sorrow, and what is her connection to Mephisto’s ultimate scheme? “As someone who grew up with the original Bring On the Bad Guys on his bedroom shelf, this project is particularly exciting to me,” Guggenheim shared. “It’s been a while since I had the chance to work with other writers on a crossover event and I’m truly enjoying the collaboration. Marvel has such a rich roster of antagonists and it’s a huge amount of fun to not only give them their time to shine but also add a new villain to their ranks — Sister Sorrow — who is every bit as dangerous and formidable as these classic villains.” “Marvel broke the mold with supervillains, pushing them past the archetypical to the complex and some even morally gray but still to be feared,” Editor Mark Paniccia added. “Each of these one-shots are an opportunity for fans to see what makes these villains some of the most dangerous characters in the Marvel Universe.” Check out Mike McKone’s homage to John Romita’s original cover. Stay tuned for more BRING ON THE BAD GUYS announcements, including creative team and cover reveals.

Delroy Lindo has entered the MonsterVerse. The veteran actor, who will next be seen fighting vampires in Ryan Coogler’s upcoming Sinners, has closed a deal to join the cast of Legendary’s latest installment of its Godzilla-King Kong movie franchise. Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) is directing the creature feature, which showcases gigantic monsters and the humans caught in between. Plot details from the David Callaham-written script are being kept under the Earth’s crust, but Legendary has said the story will feature “several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.” Sources say that Lindo will play a head honcho at Monarch, the shady scientific organization that sometimes helps, sometimes hunts the titanic creatures. DC Studios has finally found a director to mold Clayface. After several months of searching, Speak No Evil helmer James Watkins has been chosen to direct the feature based on the Batman villain, which has a script from horror maestro Mike Flanagan. Sources say that DC co-chief James Gunn met with Watkins Thursday for a final presentation that led to the nod of nabbing the gig. A deal will now be hammered out. Clayface was first introduced in 1940 and known for his ability to shape-shift. Sources say the film is budgeted at $40 million and is a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay. The movie is due to shoot later this year and is meant to show the breadth of DC material, from big-budget superhero fare such as Superman on one side of the spectrum to lesser known characters in projects that are more modestly budgeted.
